Learning the Unknown Through Divination

Wiccan Practice and Methods of Divination Include Scrying and Radiesthesia

Divination is a way of gaining insight into a situation, a question, or the unknown; a way of asking questions.

There are many different types of divination, such as tarot cards, runes, scrying and palmistry. Different methods work for different people, it is all a question of trial and error, to see which method works best. When trying any form of divination, it's best to practice the divination method at least once a week..

Scrying / Crystal Gazing

Scrying is commonly performed using a crystal ball, but virtually any reflective surface can be used, even a glass of water. An ideal scrying glass can be made using a round or oval picture frame or mirror (with no picture in it). Simply paint the back of the glass with a couple of coats of black paint.

Before scrying, many recommend taking a bath to cleanse the body, then meditating to clear and cleanse the mind.

To use a glass of water get a clear glass, plain tumbler, filled right to the top with water. Stand it on a plain dark surface (a black velvet cloth is ideal).

When scrying, many practitioners believe it's best to turn off all lights in the room; instead light a candle and place it so that it does not shine a reflection into the water, and light some incense. Sit looking directly at the surface of the water. Decide what question needs answering or what information is required. Completely relax, then stare into the water while thinking of nothing.

Some people will see an image or picture appear in the water. Others will see a mist, then the mist will clear to see an image. The image may be coloured or may be black and white, and it may be similar to a photograph, or may be moving. Some people do not see anything, but perseverance is the key - keep trying.

When scrying it is important to remember that any images seen should not be taken literally. Images are like dreams, they may be symbolic and require interpretation.

Pendulum Divination / Radiesthesia

This method of divination has been used for many years. A pendulum can be bought from online stores, or it is possible to make a simple pendulum using a length of ribbon or a necklace, with a small suspended weight attached to it.

The pendulum acts as a powerful antenna that receives information from vibrations and energy waves emitted by people, places, and thoughts.

Use the pendulum by resting the elbows on a table, keeping as still as possible so as not to influence the sway of the pendulum. Then ask a question. It must have a yes / no answer. Usually if it sways around in a circle, then it is uncertain of an answer, if it sways from side to side it has answered no, and if it sways to and fro it has answered yes. To confirm this, place a small card with "yes" written on the top and bottom and "no" written on the two sides, placed under the pendulum.

If a question is not answered, or the pendulum goes in a circular motion, then try rephrasing the question.

This method of divination is frequently used to determine the sex of a baby, by hanging the pendulum over the stomach of the pregnant woman, it is also used at seances to obtain an answer of a question asked to someone in the spirit world, but it can be used to answer any questions that come to mind.

So if a person has a question which remains unanswered, then maybe they should try scrying, radiesthesia, or another method of divination.
